B Y E

English classes at University has been more funny than how was in the school, because the use of the blogs instead of the paper for write things helps, at least to me, to keep my mind concentrate and at the same time I feel motivated to tell some things about me to my classmates and knowing them  through their blogs.

I think it’s very cool how the hours are distributed, like using the half of them for speaking and the other half to write. I compare the situations and in my school for example, we just had to write and do exercises, and the part of speaking, that is the most I have to improve, the teachers set aside, so giving hours to do speaking exercise between classmates it has been great.

For improving my speaking that is, as I said, one of my weakness, sometimes when I’m alone I start to speak in English all the things that I’m doing at the moment (I know It’s kind of weird but, well, I’m weird so there’s nothing to do with that. :D ). Three years ago I welcomed a New Zealand student for three weeks in my house and she didn’t understand a word in Spanish so I was obligated to talk to her just in English, so that’s another thing that could work for improving the oral part, talking with people who speaks just in English.

And to finish, I used the English when I’m alone, and I’m desperate with everything that I have to do. In mental breakdown moments I start to think and murmur things in English (I murmur just when is someone else with me, because there’s nobody else, I star to shout things… bad things against the life in English :D )

And that’s all I have to say, It’s been a pleasure for you to read my posts, I hope I never see you again in English classes, bye.

Dream program career

As all we know, Architecture is a career based on the experience, I think Architecture is for living it, beyond studying it. So starting with this idea, the main change I would do in the program, is to travel and visit the most important architectural works, at least in Santiago the first year, and then who knows, out of chile!

I know that not everybody has the same economic situation, and that’s why I think the faculty should give the facilities to students in need.

Continuing with the program, I’d focus on things related with the human behavior and how to control it, for example, we all start the university and immediately have problems with organizing time. So I really think that is urgent to put some subject that teaches you the best way to do the projects, how much time you should spend on thinking about the project, making the project, how many hours you should sleep, what time, and many other things that are basic, but most of us don’t know how to go through with them.

About the teaching methods, as I’ve already said, I think it’s very important to travel and live the architecture, so a good way to teach could be in the place or the building that we want to study. And at the time of making models, every group of students should have their own classroom, because here in the faculty we have to be looking for a place start to work every hour, because of the schedule of each classroom.

And of course there should be AutoCAD courses because you pass the first year and immediately teachers demand you for a model in 3D in AutoCAD with contour lines included! Well, I’m exaggerating, but it feels like that (Well actually I didn’t feel that because I haven’t passed first year yet haha, but all my friends did haha and they told me haha…. Poor them)
So basically that would be my suggested program: just trips (not the drug, of course…) and work collaboratively with the other faculties of the University.

'I don't mind what you think about me'

I have already mentioned Meryl Streep in one of my post and is because I think she’s an admirable person, despite I obviously don’t know her in nearly, she has told us about she and her story through many interviews in television.

This great actress has performed remarkable movies like ‘El diablo viste a la moda’, ‘Kramer vs Kramer’, ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Los puentes de Madison’, ‘La dama de hierro’ and many others, but before being known as she is now, she had to pass some difficulties, most of them related with the mind, with how much you want to do something for keep with that dream despite someone tells you that you would never do that.

In 2015 a picture of her appeared around the social network, where she is inside the subway and there’s a little description down which says ‘This picture was taken in the way to my house, after saying me I was too ugly to be part of the movie King Kong’. That was a crucial moment in the life of Meryl, as she told in an interview, because she was starting with her career and all her dreams were about to go to hell. Anyone could get destroyed in that moment and say bye to everything, but she didn’t

She didn’t let opinion of others affected her and just let it go while she kept with her dreams, and actually before she was treated like an ugly person, she told to the Italian man ‘I’m sorry for your thinking I’m not pretty enough for your movie, but your opinion is just one in thousands’
Nowadays she has been nominated to the Oscar 19 times and won 3 of them.

She is definitely amazing.

K-si

Republica Dominicana was on my mind for this summer’s holiday, and in my family’s too; we’ve never travelled abroad together, so this holiday seems perfect to make that dream come true.

My family and I like going to places where we can live and feel the space, not just contemplate it, so the best reasons for travelling there, are the weather, beaches and the landscape and also we have a relative living there, I don’t know where exactly my cousin lives, but is a positive thing at the moment of looking for a trustworthy residence, either because he can recommend us some place, or he can take us in his home.

The beach I would most like to visit is, obviously, Punta Cana because of it warm sea, clear water and perfect swell. According to the pictures that appears on internet, and the opinion of some people that has already travelled there, it seems like a little paradise.

Despite of the bid that makes the beach to rest, there are more activities you can do there, like learning to surf, playing golf, nightlife, taking pictures to the great fauna, going to the casino, eating the typical food of the country and more.

All of this, as I said at the beginning, was only on my mind, because of different reasons we will not be able to make the trip to this destination, but we’re going to another place, to another country, somewhere that I’ll not say because I’m superstitious and whenever I told somebody my future plans, everything got canceled, so you’ll never know jeje.

Best topic ever

Well, I have learned by my own way how to play some musical instruments, like guitar, keyboard, tambourine, ukulele, Vietnamese trompe, kalimba, guiro, tormento, djembe and darbuka, so I could say that’s my special talent, but I don’t think that’s so shocking and great like doing everything at the last minute, and most of time getting good results.

With the passage of time I have discovered that and I’m not proud, actually I hate being this way because no matter I do, I always finish ‘in the shit’ doing the entire life. But as I said, most of time luck is on my side, for example when I was on first year of high school I had to read a book and I hate it, I don’t even remember the name, and I had read like 20 pages and the test was at next day… I was used to get good marks and I wasn’t going to let myself fail for a stupid book, so I call a friend on Monday night (the test was on Tuesday) and I begged her to tell me the story. 1 hour stuck on the phone (poor dad’s pocket) and I got a 6.5, wuhu! Well, I was happy but my friend didn’t because, I don’t know why, she got a low grade.

Situations like this have happened many times in my short life, but the greatest was last year, and is the reason why I’m here writing now. I started studying architecture here last year and for an unknown reason, my classmates and I were collapsed with many subjects, but I never thought that it would end so badly. I was failing all my subjects and I had just one week for saving my stay at the University and I don’t know how, I passed all of them in the last day, literally. I was on tests all the day, from 8 am to 8 pm and I did it. Well, almost, because I failed workshop but who cares :D, I passed 5/6 subjects in one day and since that day I consider doing everything at last minute and wining is… the life.

Well, not, is mediocrity :c

BIM

Well, to be honest, I’m not really sure about what I’m going to do in the future, actually, I’ve never been sure about anything anyway. Everything I do is guided by what I’m feeling at the moment, so I can’t certainly say what postgraduate course I will take, but something that have always caught my attention are PC’s programs to edit or create images and own designs, like Photoshop, Ilustrator, Autocad, among others, so that would be my focus.

What’s hot nowadays is BIM (Building Information Modeling), the program that outstrips Autocad, because you don’t have just the architectural work‘s planimetry, now with this program you can have all the building data during its lifecycle, using the software that models in 3D and at a real time. So, as you can see, this is the future, even more, is the present. I want to know everything about this,
because it’s going to be the base of all, so doing a postgraduate study about BIM would be great.

I know about a postgraduate study of Modeling and Projects Coordination here in FAU, but I’d prefer taking it abroad, because in that way my CV could improve even more than if I stay in my hometown… Maybe traveling to Italy is a good idea, but I don’t speak Italian, and BIM is already a complicated language to understand, so Spain is the best option for going.

And what do you think, too boring?

Well I’ don’t mind what you think, I just have to complete the 210 words :D

''Chocolate? cho co la teeee''

As I’m studying architecture, my future job should be an architect, but the truth is my dream job is other: chocolate taster.

Few years ago, when people started to ask me ‘how would you earn a living in the future?’  The first thing I though was on chocolate. I have loved chocolate since ever, so I imagined there must be people in charge of taste the chocolate to approve it sale. From that moment I started to look on the internet about this job and if it was possible to work on that and I really wanted to do it, just imagine eat all the chocolate you want and get paid for that!

Well, after discovering the nonexistence of that job, and the only thing related whit that was a wine taster, and I didn’t want to spend all my life drunk (by that way), I decided look for other works.

For my mind went so many works… like make dubbing at the movies (I used to practice like a stupid in my home the character voices every day), later I was obsessed with criminal minds, a TV show and wanted to be like the forensic investigators that appeared on that. When I realized that seeing blood makes me sick, I dismissed the idea. I wanted to be like Meryl Streep for a while too and be an incredible actress.

After those crazy ideas, I sadly remembered that you only live with money, which I couldn’t get with those options for work, so I put my feet on the ground and I decided to be an architect, thinking that it would be related with art or something. I was wrong about that haha, but I still like it.

So I just hope finish the career and travel around the world visiting the great architectural works while improving my knowledge increasingly… make so many trips, that’s all I want… and well, taste chocolate from every country I visit would not be bad haha.

A place to remember

I really like going to restaurants with my family, and even though we don’t usually go too much, this one is my favorite by far. Onces Bellavista it’s located in the coastline of Puerto Varas where you can contemplate the great Osorno Volcano while having an special German 'once'.

This place is so magic, because when you pass along the road, you can’t imagine the awesome landscape you could see from there. So from that perspective it’s a sexy place, because of the surprises that gives you once you enter there.

The restaurant it’s situated about 40 meters inside from the entry, so the process to get there its different from others restaurants, starting with the presence of llamas, sheeps and deers playing in the grass, inviting you to play with them. When you’re walking up the hill you can’t see the landscape, but once you get to the restaurant, you can see the volcano above the sea, which is one of the best things that has ‘Onces Bellavista’, apart from the meal, which is fallen from the sky.

There are some activities for kids too, like children’s slide and swings and a mini canopy, which was my favorite when I was a child.

So, because of everything I told, I definitely recommend you go there, you’ll not regret it!

'Woh! we're going to Brazil'

On December of 2012, when I was 15, my classmates and I made the traditional ‘’study tour’’ that makes all the schools at the secondary, we went to Brazil, Balneario Camboriú for one week, which was the typical destination of most of them.

The first impression that I got was the moisture that was in the air, totally different from Chile!

We arrived at 4 am, so the first thing we did was sleep. We walked around the place, everything seemed to be pacific, but when night came, madness came over us in the foam party, it was amazing.

The following days we had fun on a water park full of water slides, got into a mud adventure and visited Unipraias Park, where we got in the ZipRider and felt the velocity and the wind in my face 240 high meters, which was amazing because we were above a great jungle.

We took a trip on a ‘pirate ship’ too and one of the greatest thing was that you could jump over the sea if you wanted it! I say ‘one of the greatest thing’, because the best was dancing while drinking lots of different cocktails while staring at the horizon. Obviously we went to Beto Carrero Park and to the Lightning Chris too where we saw the fabulous city night.

I had too much fun all of those days, but the best for me, by far, was the last one, because it was my birthday, and my mom had given some money to my best friend and she, with the rest of my friends, made me a surprise celebration in the beach, and it was so beautiful that I couldn’t believe what I was looking.

Definitely, this trip was the best Holidays I’ve ever had.

My dream country

Ireland has been my dream country since I was 12 years old, when I was in 7th grade, because we were studying on History class some countries which were involved in the Second War, and although Ireland’s role wasn’t so big like the other nations, I had to talk about it.

Beside of it influence on war, I started to investigate about the president, how the laws are, how Irish live, their beliefs and more things that slowly started to catch my attention, and when I saw pictures, I immediately fell in love with the landscape, all the green that appeared and the beauty of the place. I was fascinated, so I look up for all the credence that they have, and the things I found made me want to push a button and appear at that moment in Ireland.

About the celebrations and credence, Halloween and Saint Patrick’s day for example, are the most famous national festivals which last almost three days and gathers thousand people. The Leprechauns (trolls) are also part of this and the country’s mythology. The legend says that if you catch one of them, you’ll get luck.

Beside this, Celtic heritage influences music and food. Those things are very important for Irish too, just what I mostly like in life. But If I travel one day, it would be just for a month, because I think I couldn’t support the weather for a long time.

And when I do, I’ll be so happy…
